"In 1704 I accepted an appointment as court conductor/music director in Sorau, where His Excellency Count Erdmann von Promnitz resided. The splendid character of this court which had been furnished in a truly royal manner moved me to undertake enterprising projects enthusiastically, particularly in regard to instrumental. When the court moved to Plesse, an Upper-Silesian area which the Promnitz family governed, I became acquainted there and also in Krakau with Polish and Moravian music in its true, barbaric beauty."
