Telemann in Eisenach

At which special places and in which special spaces will the events take place?
Thuringia is in a unique position to be a first premiere site for both, spiritual and secular works of Telemann that still or rather again allow to deploy the sound of the 18th century: St. Georges’ church and Wilhelmsthal Castle belong to the main venues of the Eisenach Telemann days. St. Georges’ church can point to a strong musical tradition: In addition to the Bach family, whose members had been the churches’ organists for over 132 years, a number of great musicians worked for the church, such as Johann Pachelbel or Johann Melchior Molter. Between 1710 und 1730 several cantata volumes of Telemann premiered here.
The oval and richly stucco-equipped so-called Telemann hall at Wilhelmsthal castle is said to be the oldest free-standing concert hall in Europe. Appreciated for its excellent acoustics already at the time of its origin, several odes which Telemann had composed for the Eisenach court, premiered here between 1716 and 1725.
